My boyfriend, Doug (aka Slink) just got his new hearing aids today.  When I asked him how it was he said he could hear his sleeves rolling up for the first time.  He’s had hearing aids before, but they were a decade old which meant old technology.  Since then, his hearing has gotten worse which meant his hearing aids at the time helped even less.

He texted me before work saying he could actually hear traffic.  He’ll be able to play a D chord on guitar and hear it.  My friend Carolyn sings with him and he said he could never hear her when she sang because her voice was so high.  Today he can hear her sing.

Considering everything he’s been through, this is beyond a gift for him.  Something we take so much for granted.  Like being able to hear our sleeves roll up.  Or someone crawling into bed with you.  

I’m amazed by his abilities to be such an amazing person and have the ability to value life for all of it’s beauty.
